In order to compete in the rapidly changing markets, enterprises always have to improve the competence of their product development. That implies the reduction of development time, low development and manufacturing costs, and high quality levels. From these objectives enterprises derive means to optimize their product development activities. These means comprise different possibilities in the area of information-technological, organizational, and methodical optimization of product development processes. In this lecture optimization potentials and methods as well as optimization tools will be presented with respect to design models, technological planning, development processes, and costs planning. Deficits of methods and tools will be disclosed as optimization tasks for the future.
